The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) Top Safety Pick+ award goes to the 2021 Honda Odyssey. It is the first minivan to garner this honor. The 2021 Honda Odyssey is also the only minivan on the market to earn the institute’s awards. Furthermore, making it, if you follow the IIHS’ ratings, the safest option in the segment. There is nothing better than feeling safe and secure in a vehicle you are driving in and transporting other people.
2020 Honda Odyssey – Top Safety Pick
The 2020 Odyssey got Top Safety Pick last year. Unfortunately, the 2020 Odyssey missed out on the “+” designation because of its headlights. Even though the automaker offers three different headlight options, none got a “Good” rating. That is a requirement for the highest safety award. However, the 2021 Odyssey got some changes. Those changes include standard headlights. They got an “Acceptable” rating. The standard front-crash-prevention system earns a “Superior” rating.
Minivans Are Known for Being The Safest Vehicles on the Market
Minivans have a reputation as being some of the safest vehicles on the market. However, there are changes the IIHS made to its requirements. This is in regard to a vehicle earning one of its awards. It has decreased the number of Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ vehicles. It is a noteworthy achievement to earn an award with minivans garnering that spot.
Honda’s Seven Vehicles Earn IIHS’ Safety Awards
Honda has the distinction of having seven vehicles that earn either one of the IIHS’ safety awards. The Honda Civic Coupe is one. The Civic Hatchback is another. Then there is the Civic Sedan, Accord, and CR-V. All are Top Safety Pick vehicles. The Honda Odyssey and Honda Insight are Top Safety Pick+ vehicles. The 2021 Honda Odyssey got the IIHS’ highest safety award. Some improvements for models are facelifts for the Honda Accord and Honda Ridgeline shortly coming.
